01 Washington, DC

The nation's capital is at its very best in the early spring, when the world-famous cherry blossoms open and blanket the city with their sweet scent. The National Cherry Blossom Festival typically runs from late March through mid-April, which coincides with Easter weekend most years. In addition to the natural beauty on display around the Tidal Basin and Washington Monument, the festival includes a parade, kite celebration, and special art shows.

02 Bar Harbor, ME

Let's be honest: coastal Maine is not a warm destination for Easter weekend. But for visitors who enjoy rising at dawn on Easter Sunday, this quaint seaside town offers one of the first sunrises in the continental United States. If conditions permit, you may be able to drive to the summit of Cadillac Mountain for an amazing panoramic view of the sunrise. Otherwise, enjoy the annual Easter egg hunt at the Bar Harbor Inn for your chance at classic treats as well as "golden tickets" to spa treatments and fine dining.

This coastal city in San Diego County has one of the best spring blooms in the state at the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. There's always plenty to do in the Big Apple, including Broadway shows and some of the world's greatest museums. On Easter Sunday, head to Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue to take in the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival, where you'll see locals in old-fashioned dress and elaborate, artistic hats.
