One of Scottsdale's many unique features is the Arizona Canal. It was built in the late 1880s to bring water from the Salt River to central Arizona for agricultural and municipal use. It stretches nearly 40 miles through various neighborhoods, including several affluent Phoenix suburbs. Scottsdale's Waterfront Project revitalized the section running through the city, adding a pedestrian suspension bridge, art installations, public spaces, and a trail for walking and jogging. Visitors can enjoy eateries, galleries, bars, and Scottsdale Fashion Square.
