01 The U.S. Space & Rocket Center
Anyone traveling to Huntsville has to visit the U.S. Space Center. Admittance into the facility is $25 and it is suitable for all ages. There are interactive games and exhibits where you will learn more about space and space travel. Upon leaving, you will also be able to walk through the space center's gift shop. If you're looking for a souvenir or something to bring home to friends and family, this gift shop has some pretty awesome buys.
02 Huntsville Botanical Garden
Huntsville is also home to a beautiful botanical garden that you won't want to miss during your visit. It hosts gardens and trails as well as the largest open-aired butterfly house in the United States. 03 The U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum
History buffs will enjoy visiting Huntsville's U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum. The establishment is operated by the Alabama Center of Military History and is dedicated to highlighting the accomplishments of all those who have served their country. In addition to paying your respects to veterans, you can also check out all the objects the museum owns, from World War I military vehicles to present-day military equipment. Some of the items in the museum even date back to the Revolutionary War!
04 Harmony Park Safari
Harmony Park Safari is a hidden gem in Huntsville. It's a fully licensed nature preserve that provides a home to various exotic and even endangered animals. Best of all, you can take the full safari tour from the comfort of your own vehicle. If you are lucky enough, you may even have a zebra or ostrich poke their heads through your car window.
05 Monte Sano State Park
Anyone who loves the outdoors will love visiting this park and witnessing its breath-taking views. Situated on the slopes of Monte Sano Mountain, the Monte Sano State Park is a registered landmark in Alabama. It first opened in 1938 and features cottages from that era you can use for camping. If the rustic 1930's vibe isn't your thing, there are also modern campsites available.
06 Madison County Nature Trail
Nature lovers will absolutely love the Madison County Nature Trail. No matter what season it is, you will be able to take in the beautiful scenery. The trail itself is located on top of Green Mountain within a 72-acre nature park, which features walking trails, picnic areas, and the state's oldest Champion Winged Elm Tree. 07 Railroad Station Antique Mall
If you're someone who likes to do a little shopping on vacation, the Railroad Station Antique Mall is a must! The mall has spectacular reviews and, no matter who you are, you'll find something you love in its three stories of unique finds and antiques. They've got everything from books to clothing and jewelry to furniture, so be sure to schedule a few hours to visit.
08 Burritt on the Mountain
Burritt on the Mountain is another Huntsville must-see. This historical landmark allows visitors to take a step back in time. You'll be able to see authentic log cabins and a barnyard, all of which were constructed in the 1800's. Visitors are also able to get a tour of the Burritt mansion, which was owned by Dr. Burritt, who many considered to be eccentric. On top of that, Burritt on the Mountain is also home to a number of hiking trails.
09 North Alabama Railroad Museum
This attraction is located just east of Huntsville in a town called Chase. The museum is dedicated to preserving railroad history. On display, you can see various railroad items from history. Additionally, if you call ahead and check if the train is running that day, you can even take a train ride across the museum's vintage train tracks.
10 Hays Nature Preserve
The Hays Nature Preserve has 10 miles of trails for visitors to enjoy and is one of the largest, most undeveloped, parkland in Huntsville. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of scenery, including forests and wetlands. Not to mention, anyone visiting the park is sure to see some kind of wildlife while they are there. Certain trails also allow for horseback riding and biking.
