WalletHub compiled a list of the best foodie cities in America in 2022, and Denver sits among the top.

For those with finer tastes, Denver has had a steadily growing fine-dining scene for the past two decades, hosting several Michelin-star destinations. The city is also home to classic street food, global cuisine, and eateries inspired by the region's history. Whether you're searching for a wallet-friendly meal after a long day on the trails or a Michelin-star experience, Denver has options for every taste and budget.


02 Kiké's Red Tacos

Opened in 2020 by Enrique Figueroa, Kiké's Red Tacos is a recent addition to the Denver scene but has taken the city by storm. Figueroa spent much of his life working and managing restaurants in Mexico, and he brings authentic Mexican cuisine to the streets of Denver with his food truck. The signature dish is the Birria tacos, inspired by Figueroa's favorite childhood dish.

03 The Ginger Pig

The Ginger Pig was born from Chef Natascha Hess's deep love of Beijing and the time she spent there as a student. According to Hess, she learned authentic recipes from her host mother and used that knowledge to start The Ginger Pig. The menu includes street food inspired by different regions of Asia, boasting cuisine inspired by China, Korea, Thailand, and more.

04 Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs

This hot dog eatery is world-famous and appeared in Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. With a physical location in Laramie Square and a fleet of food carts situated around Denver and its suburbs, Biker Jim's serves gourmet hot dogs topped with various toppings like caramelized onions, lemon aioli, or even roasted cactus.

05 Dimestore Delibar

The Dimestore Delibar is an eclectic LoHi sandwich shop specializing in "dimerolls," which are toasted sandwiches rolled in focaccia. The Dimestore Delibar has a laid-back atmosphere, decorated with colorful art and eccentric decor. The eatery also has an extensive craft beer and wine list and specialty cocktails. You can even purchase grab-and-go cocktails to enjoy at home!

06 Work & Class

Work & Class is a simple, informal eatery that specializes in Latin American and American cuisine thanks to its chefs: Tony Maciag and Dana Rodriguez. Maciag hails from Detroit, Michigan, while Rodriguez grew up in Chihuahua, Mexico. The seasonal menu includes empanadas, grits, sweet plantains, and cornbread.

07 Safta

Safta brings a taste of the Mediterranean to the Mile-High City. With flavors inspired by Northern Africa, Southern Europe, and the Middle East, Safta's menu offers classic dishes like matza ball soup, tabouleh, kebabs, and lamb. Safta also gives back to the community with their monthly Hummus for a Cause fundraiser, where proceeds from orders of hummus benefit a charity.

08 Spuntino

Spuntino is an Italian restaurant with a global twist. Chef Cindhura Reddy puts a spin on classic cuisine by infusing Indian flavors or incorporating Rocky Mountain ingredients like elk or buffalo milk. Spuntino also features an extensive wine, cocktail, and craft beer list, so you can enjoy the perfect pairing over dinner.

09 Ultreia

Located in the iconic and historic Union Station,  Ultreia serves Iberian cuisine inspired by Portugal and Spain. Ultreia also offers paella "patio parties," where you can hire chefs to bring a taste of Spain to your home and cook paella for you and your guests.

10 Fruition

Fruition is the ultimate farm-to-fork establishment. Helmed by Chef Alex Seidel, many of the ingredients at Fruition come from a local farm and Seidel's own creamery. Fruition serves elevated American cuisine and offers slow-cooked swordfish, potato latke, and braised lamb shank.

11 Ocean Prime

Ocean Prime brings a taste of the sea to landlocked Colorado. Located in bustling Laramie Square, you can enjoy fresh seafood dishes such as oysters, ahi tuna, salmon, or sea bass. The menu also offers a selection of steak, so there's still something for restaurant-goers who prefer more turf than surf.

12 Uchi Denver

Uchi Denver is a stylish restaurant offering modern takes on Japanese classics like sushi, miso, and hot rock wagyu. If you're feeling adventurous, order omakase, which translates to "I leave it up to you." Ordering omakase leaves your dinner up to Uchi's chefs, so every dish brought out to your table is a hand-selected surprise.

13 The Wolf's Tailor

Named one of America's best new restaurants by Bon Appetit in 2019, The Wolf's Tailor is an innovative, upscale restaurant featuring Italian, Japanese, and Coloradan flavors. The Wolf's Tailor adheres to a zero-waste mentality and offers an Entrust menu—much like omasake, the award-winning chefs will select your dinner for you.

14 Palace Arms

The Palace Arms brings Old World splendor to Denver's fine dining scene. Locating in the historic Brown Palace Hotel, Palace Arms is elegantly decorated and offers upscale French-inspired cuisine. The restaurant is also a museum with actual historical art and artifacts from the Napoleonic era (including dueling pistols used by Napoleon himself.)

15 Beckon

Beckon doesn't just provide upscale fine dining; it's an entire dining experience. Seating at the restaurant is limited to prepaid ticketholders, who take their seats around the chef's counter and enjoy hand-selected cuisine. The menu changes quarterly and is inspired by the seasons of the moon.

16 Mizuna

Mizuna is one of the top-rated restaurants in the entire Western U.S. Chefs at Mizuna are encouraged to utilize seasonal produce and create highly creative recipes, often inspired by French cuisine. Mizuna's dining room is small and intimate, giving the atmosphere a cozy yet refined feel.
