22 Stand at the edge of Meteor Crater Natural Landmark

What happens when an asteroid strikes planet Earth? It leaves an imprint upon impact. No scar is more impressive than the succinctly named Meteor Crater. Formed 50,000 years ago and discovered in the 19th century, Meteor Crater is 560 feet deep and almost a mile wide. Its rim hovers 148 feet above the surrounding plain. Only those with special dispensation can venture to the bottom, but no matter—the views from the lip are amazing. You can learn more about this piece of natural history at the museum.
